A couple of foals nudged a filly forward with a bit of nervous energy. “My grandmare tells me this tale every year” … she pauses for dramatic effect

“My grandmare was a great adventurer. One evening she was looking for a place to sleep, and she came upon a large pond, much like the one near here. She found a good spot under an old tree that had branches draping on the ground and settled down.“

A few foals seemed to be bored at this point and Somnus was living up to his nickname of Sleepy Som and was out cold curled up next to Stanly. The young filly kept going in spite of her audience.

“As she was about to drift off, she started to hear a voice calling for help. Grandmare perked her ears, scrambling to her hooves, looking frantically to see where the soft cries were coming from. She slowly crept forward closer to the pond, the cries louder, but oddly it also sounded like water flowing over rocks. Grandmare shook her head a little at the absurdity of this. She continued to inch closer to the pond, when she was just a few steps away. An equine’s head shot out of the water…

And that eerie voice asked for just a few of my grandma’s tail hairs....

"Please,... your tail hairs... I only need a few!"
